On the Weaving Techniques of Qin and Han Dynasties in Hunan Province from the Woven Fabrics unearthed from Mawangdui Han Tomb
From 1972 to 1974,a large number of textile and clothing cultural relics were unearthed from the Han tomb in Mawangdui,Changsha. In addition to the woven yam, silk, woven material,four-warp loins, warp brocade and brocade face with large and small pile rings and pile rings with three-dimensional effects, there are also a large category of woven fabrics, which,as a part of textile clothing, covers a wide range of content and complicated weaving techniques.Through the arrangement and study of the unearthed woven fabrics, according to the different weaving methods and types, the woven fabrics were divided into three categories combining the literature records. On this basis, the woven fabrics excavated from the Han tomb in Mawangdui were compared with those excavated from the Chu tomb in Huxiang area in pre-Qin period.Through the comparison results,it can be inferred that the types of weaving in the pre-Qin period in Huxiang area were richer than those in the Han Dynasty. That's because with the development of weaving technology, the diagonal knitting structure combined with double-layer,double flat, surface and inner layers, etc.,derived rich and diverse weaving techniques to meet various purposes. The skew twisted composite structure followed the weaving technology of the pre-Qin period and was widely used in clothing and life applications. The skew twisted composite structure was widely used in the Han Dynasty to paint the yam crown to ensure the breathability of the yam crown while meeting the shape requirements. The twisted weaving structure was widely used in shoe weaving in Qin and Han dynasties because of its unique function.
