Separator is an important part of lithium-ion battery(LIB),which has a great impact on the capacity,cycle,durability and safety performance of the battery.Polyolefin microporous membranes are widely used as LIB separators due to their good mechanical strength,high chemical and electrochemical stability,low cost,high porosity,and appropriate thermal shutdown properties.However,polyolefin microporous membranes have problems such as high-temperature heat shrinkage and poor electrolyte wettability,which reduce the safety and electrochemical performance of the battery.Polyvinylidene fluoride(PVDF)and its copolymers have excellent electrochemical stability,chemical stability,processability,dielectric properties,etc.,and the thermal stability and wetting properties of the separator can be significantly improved by coating PVDF and its copolymers on the polyolefin separator.In this paper,the research progress of PVDF and its copolymer-coated polyolefin separators is reviewed,and the development direction of PVDF and its copolymer-coated polyolefin separators is prospected.
