Comparison of MBTH Method and HPLC Method for the Determination of Volatile Formaldehyde Content in Automobile Interiors
Formaldehyde is a common chemical pollutant in the environment.Formaldehyde is also pre-sent in the relevant environment in the car,so the concentration of formaldehyde needs to be measured to achieve the purpose of pollution control. In this paper,3-methyl-2-benzothiazolinone hydrazone hydrochlo-ride method(MBTH)and high performance liquid chromatography(HPLC)were used to compare and test formaldehyde volatilization in automotive interior. It was found that MBTH method can quickly measure formaldehyde concentration under experimental conditions, and it is convenient to use and practical.Howev-er,in view of the complex air environment formed by volatilization of various automotive interior parts,HPLC method is the best method for the qualitative and quantitative determination of formaldehyde.
