Research on International Publicity Translation from the Perspective of Functional Translation Theory——Take the English Version of the Zhoushan Government Website for Example
International publicity translation is the requirements not only for the promotion of a city's culture soft power but for the cross-cultural communication as well.In the respect of various international publicity texts,the government's English website is an important platform for international popularity with high credibility.This study,taking the functional translation theory as the guiding theory and selecting the texts on the English version of the Zhoushan government website as the research objects,makes both an analysis and an exploration of the current situation and problems of international publicity translation in Zhoushan city from the following four types of mistranslation,including pragmatic errors,cultural errors,linguistic errors,and specific translation errors,thus advancing the corresponding strategies for the translation of international publicity translation.Firstly,in terms of translation method,a translation compensation and the sentence simplification are adopted with the attention to content differences between home and abroad.Secondly,in terms of the translator's quality,both internal and external skills are needed.Thirdly,as for the management of international publicity translation,the government should play a leading role in increasing investment to train translation talents and to construct websites.Furthermore,the government has to formulate translation norms of international publicity,and make full use of the publicity function of convergence media in this information era.
