On the Translation and Dissemination of Western Detective Novels in China during the Late Qing Dynasty
By applying Polysystem Theory,this study comprehensively examines the translation and dissemination of Western detective novels in China during the late Qing Dynasty from various dimensions such as social and cultural context,translator subjectivity,reader's perspective,and publishers.Research findings indicate that,influenced by multiple factors,the translation of Western detective novels was abundant and widely disseminated,occupying a dominant position among translated novels in late Qing China and becoming an important driving force for the development and innovation of Chinese literature.Moreover,it reflects the cultural exchange and dissemination between China and Western countries at that time,as well as the process of cultural identity and transformation in Chinese society.
