Landscape,Memory and Self-fashioning in Momaday's House Made of Dawn
In House Made of Dawn,Momaday endeavors to foreground the correlation of landscape and memory as an important means of the protagonist's self-fashioning,aiming to clarify the symbiotic relationship between landscape, memory and the return of the Self. The tribal landscape preserves and shapes the individual and collective memories, which in return awaken the Self to reintegrate into the tribal landscape, promoting the protagonist to re-examine the Self.Transitioning from the tribal landscape to the urban landscape, from memory to reality, the returnee finally realizes his true Self in landscape recollection and the real tribal landscape, thus reconstructing his sense of Self through renewed integration with the tribal landscape.
