During the Song Dynasty,officials frequently refuse to go to take their posts.Due to differ-ences in their own situation and political background,the reasons for the resignation of officials in the Song Dynasty are varied,which cover the officials'conformism,their weighing of the pros and cons and retrea-ting for political purposes,and their own morality and official views.Those different reasons are in fact beneficial to the officials'career because they can gain the good reputation of being not ambitious of pow-er.The Emperors of the Song Dynasty tend to hold an understanding and supporting attitude towards the resignation of officials,which shows the high tolerance and freedom of politics in the Song Dynasty.
