The Management and Cultural Characteristics of Xu Yuan Garden in Shanghai during the Late Qing Dynasty
Against the backdrop of continuous conflict and integration between Chinese and Western cultures,the owner of Xu Yuan Garden transformed Xu Yuan Garden from a private garden into an open garden that integrates self-entertainment and public entertainment in order to pursue commercial profits and meet the needs of social public space.In the process of operation,it not only retained traditional Chinese garden culture but also added Western style entertainment activities,becoming a public entertainment venue.During the process of opening up,operation,and renovation,the traditional layout and function of Xu Yuan Garden have not been destroyed.It consciously integrates Western factors into the garden structure,achieving the adjustment of Chinese and Western cultures,which is also its most significant cultural feature.
