During the War of Resistance Against Japan,southeastern China,consisting of four adjacent provinces,namely,Fujian,Zhejiang,Jiangxi,and Guangdong,was a relatively independent region.The scale of the discussion on the national forms of literature and art in this region is extensive enough to be paral-leled with the one in the northwestern region with the center in Yan'an and the one in the southwestern region with the center in Chongqing and Guilin.The discussion in southeastern China did not have a focus,but formed several relatively fixed discussing fields and reached some relatively similar opinions.Also,it formed its own regional characteristics and made unique contributions in spite of the situation of"being isolated in the Southeast"and"fighting on its own".
