With the proposal of Boyer's diverse forms of scholarship,and the rise of assessment of non-academic impact of scientific research in colleges and universities,more and more higher educational institu-tions began to incorporate the non-traditional scholarship into the faculty evaluation system.However,this change doesn't mean that faculty will change their work model immediately.In the process of advocating non-traditional scholarship,higher educational institutions abroad faced a series of challenges and hindrances,in-cluding academic culture,tenure and promotion policy,peer review system and teaching workload.Against the backdrop of China's educational evaluation reform in the new era,colleges and universities of our country should take more types of non-traditional scholarship into consideration,which is not only conducive for the field of academy to deepening the understanding of"research output",but also helpful for faculty in colleges and universities to break free from the shackles of"the paper is everything",thus facilitating the evaluation of their"social contributions".However,it is necessary to have a full and clear understanding of the potential challenges behind it.
