On the basis of learning from foreign experience, the sports discipline in modern Chinese uni-versities gradually formed diverse local practice models. In the early years of the Republic of China, the higher normal schools represented by Nanjing Higher Normal School and Beijing Higher Normal School drew on the higher normal education systems of France and Japan to develop the sports discipline and established their own characteristics. In the 1920s and 1930s,the sports discipline of Chinese universities tried to imitate the prac-tices of American comprehensive universities in handling educational disciplines, but due to the limitation of each university's running tradition and management system,it objectively divided into"academic type"and"normal type"and other main local models. In the 1930s and 1940s,these two models gradually converged through reference and exchange. The driving force for the development model of the discipline in modern Chi-nese universities stems partly from the inherent logic of the discipline, but also closely related to the external factors such as the politics, economy, concepts, and wars. This period of exploration promoted the develop-ment of the sports discipline through competition and cooperation, and initially formed the rudimentary form and overall framework of China's sports discipline system.
