Xu Chi is an important case for understanding the complex situation of literature and the change of literati in response to political history.This paper finds five once-lost articles that contain traces of Xu Chi's changes of literary thought.These articles not only show Xu Chi's endeavor to align himself with and prac-tice the popularization of literature and art,but also reveal Xu Chi's infatuation with the modernization and art of refinement that he was once obsessed with in the old days.Although Xu Chi turned to revolution,his turn was full of signs of hesitation,which revealed a complex image of literati"in the mire".
