The Duality of Sociology and Sociology with Chinese Characteristics
This paper tries to analyze how to build"sociology with Chinese characteristics"from the perspective of the duality of sociology,i.e.,scientific and humanistic sociology.Firstly,we summa-rize some experiences and lessons by reviewing the tension between the scientific and humanistic nature of sociology in the development of sociology in the United States.Then,we overview the questioning of the"scientificity"of sociology due to the paradigm challenge,and then define the scientificity of so-ciology in terms of logic,empirical evidence,and limited rationality.Finally,by analyzing the possible sources of"characteristics"and the consciousness of"characteristics"of Chinese sociology,we pro-pose that the construction of sociology with Chinese characteristics should be rooted in its own socio-his-torical context,and adhere to the joint functioning of the"scientificity"of seeking truth from facts and the"humanism"of value for the"community of human destiny."Sociology with Chinese characteristics is expected be both scientific and humanistic and is harmonized as a whole.
