Husserl,Sellars and McDowell on the Concept of Experience
Sellars advocates a concept of experience that is separated from empiricism. In his view, this separation is an interesting feature of Kant's German idealism tradition and Dewey's prag-matism tradition.Sellars'statement also applies to Husserl's phenomenological tradition. This paper will sort out the concept of experience in Husserl,Sellars and McDowell, mainly from three aspects:the conceptual nature of empirical content, the rational relationship between experience and judgment, and whether the justification provided by experience is a conclusive one.In this paper,we will look for the commonalities and differences among these three philosophers on the concept of experience, and de-fend a non-empiricist concept of experience.
