Social Capital and Job Burnout of Chinese Scientific Researchers
Based on a national survey of scientific researchers in China, this paper describes the current situation of job burnout of Chinese researchers and examines the mechanism of how social capi-tal alleviates job burnout. The study finds that social network structural characteristics of researchers, such as the size, density and network diversity, have direct effects on alleviating their job burnout level.Further analysis shows that dense networks consist of strong ties tend to form a good organizational in-terpersonal atmosphere and provide social support when negative events came, which helps to reduce the job burnout level of researchers. On the other hand, loose and diverse networks can promote the aca-demic communication and resource acquisition of researchers, improve their academic performance, and thus alleviate their job burnout.By introducing the perspective of social capital into the study of job burnout, the paper not only expands the theoretical understanding of the influencing factors of job burn-out,but also provides policy suggestions to alleviating the job burnout of researchers and to improve their innovation efficiency.
