The Growth Mechanism and Regional Differences of the Middle Income Group in China
The report to the 20th CPC National Congress pointed out:"Chinese modernization is the modernization of common prosperity for all people."Expanding the middle-income group is an im-portant way to achieve common prosperity for all people.This article first constructs a theoretical frame-work for promoting the growth of the middle-income group from both the demand and supply sides.Then,using CGSS from 2010 to 2021,this paper systematically analyzes the growth process and growth mechanism of the middle-income group in different regions.It is found that the overall growth and the internal structure change of the middle-income group are different in different regions.Econom-ic development may not necessarily drive the growth of the middle-income group,and income redistri-bution policies and economic structure upgrading also play an important role.This article emphasizes that in order to effectively expand the middle-income group,it is necessary to strengthen empirical anal-ysis of specific policy effects.
