Differences in the Impact of Household Registration Thresholds on Social Integration of Migrant Populations in Different Cities:Based on the Analysis of CMDS2011 and 2017
Based on data from China Migrants Dynamic Survey(CMDS)conducted in 2011 and 2017,and combined with city-level household registration threshold indicators, this paper explores the impact of city household registration thresholds on the social integration of migrant populations from the perspectives of city size.Through analysis, this paper finds the following three main points:1.it is found that in megacities and large cities, household registration thresholds not only do not reduce but rather enhance the social integration of migrant populations while in other cities, household registra-tion thresholds still reduce social integration;2 mechanism analysis shows that government inclusive-ness of migrant populations mediates the enhancing effect of household registration thresholds on social integration in megacities and large cities, while it does not mediate the reducing effect of household reg-istration thresholds on social integration in other cities;3.heterogeneity analysis reveals that in all types of cities,non-agricultural household registrants and those with high socioeconomic status have greater autonomy in social integration.
