The Disputation over Centuries between Dialectics and Hope:A Brief Assessment of Ernst Bloch's Interpretation of Hegel
In Western academia,Bloch inspired the vitality of Marxism by means of Hegel's dia-lectics,and contributed thereby much to the recovery of Hegel's philosophy and of Marxism.His inter-pretation in several aspects,such as the foundation,the property,the structure and the materialist po-tential of Hegel's dialectics,brought forth the new through the old,and helped to clarifying misunder-standing and demonstrating the contemporary meaning of this dialectics.But due to the limitations of the historical condition and the scope of thought,Bloch's scattered comprehension of the"motives"of The Phenomenology of Spirit and his humanist reduction of The Science of Logic make clear that his com-prehension of Hegel has still some limitations This determines also the height of his"philosophy of hope".Putting his"hope"respectively against the background of the tradition of left-wing thought and against that of Western philosophy in 20th century,we will find that Hegel's dialectics still has huge po-tential to dispute with it,and therefore deserves in-depth investigation.
