The Mental Health Effects of Relationship Mobilization
The current researches on the use of social capital on individual health focus on the contri-bution of social capital mobilizing to their physical and mental health,while neglecting to the activation of social capital and its impact on the mental state.This paper employs seven-year data of Chinese Gener-al Social Survey(CGSS,2010-2021)to examine the strength,persistence and heterogeneity of the im-pact on the mental health of mobilized group.The results indicate that,(1)Social capital mobilization in workplace has a negative impact on the individuals'mental health,and the detrimental effect persists af-ter the mobilized group leaves his or her job.(2)In terms of the dosage of giving favor,the increase in the frequency of being mobilized doesn't cause additional harm to the mobilized group's mental health,which may indicate a gradual adaptation when being asked for favor.This study has academic implica-tions for understanding the negative effects of social capital,and also provides a new perspective for the series of studies on workplace stress and mental health in contemporary China.
