Understanding the Cosmopolitan Nature of Modern Medicine through the Eyes of Wang Jimin:A Southern Theoretical Perspective
Drawing on the writings of Chinese scholar Wang Jimin and referring to the writings of some other scholars on colonial medicine, this paper questions the term"Western medicine",argues the"cosmopolitan nature of modern medicine"from the perspective of southern theory, and emphasizes that the cosmopolitan nature of modern medicine is an acknowledgment of medical diversity,so as to explain the truth that"Western medicine"is not equal to modern medicine. The significance of arguing this truth is to break down an epistemological obscurity. To get rid of the prisoner mentality, the Chinese academic community should start from the track of East-West academic interaction and the efforts to build local disciplinary discourse and theory, and move towards the road of South-South academic inter-action,on the basis of Western studies, localization and local theoretical achievements, forge a true global social theory.
