Experimental Study on Rutting of Asphalt Pavement Affected by Different Aggregate Gradation
To study the influence of different aggregate gradations on rutting of asphalt pavement,an experimental method was adopted to study the influence of aggregate gradation differences on rutting characteristics of thin as-phalt overlay(TAO).The research process included the preparation of polymer modified asphalt, the determina-tion of volume ratio of the mixture by an overlay mixture design system, and the determination of rutting depth characteristics of the prepared mixture through wheel tracking(WT)tests. The results obtained indicate that ag-gregate grading plays a crucial role in increasing the resistance to permanent deformation of several mixtures of thin layer cover in asphalt pavement maintenance technology. In addition, adding 15%waste tire rubber powder to clean asphalt enhances the ability of the mixture to resist permanent deformation.Polymer modified asphalt containing low-density polyethylene(LDPE)becomes more hardened. Therefore,it can be inferred that optimi-zing the aggregate gradation of polymer modified asphalt using waste polymers can significantly limit the genera-tion of ruts.
