Study on Differences of Dragon Plates for Rain-praying of Hui People in Yunnan
The culture of praying for rain has similarities in different regions and nationalities,as well as its specific regional and national characteristics. The utensils and places used for rain-praying are important cultural heritages of water culture, which are of great value for the study of water culture such as the worship and the concept of water in different regions and nationalities. The Dragon Plates used in the praying for rain by the Hui people in Yunnan are taken as the material carrier, and a comparative study is conducted with the Dragon Plates used by the Han people in Handan,Hebei and Jimo,Shandong. The research shows that although the Dragon Plates are used in three regions in praying for rain with similar shapes and forms, the usage, the inscriptions and the time of Dragon Plates in rain praying ceremony by the Hui people in Yunnan are different from those in the north. The cultural diversity in Yunnan and the unity of the Hui ethnic culture in the heterogeneity are the main influencing factors for the formation of these differences. The water culture of the Hui people and the Han people in Yunnan have not only mixed with each other, but also retained the religious characteristics of Islam to a great extent.
