Does the Cross-border Behavior of Returning Entrepreneurs Contribute to Business Model Innovation? An Empirical Study based on Mixed Method
The idea that rural industrial revitalization relies on the"effective attraction of multidimensional subjects returning to their hometown for entrepreneurship"is gradually gaining recognition. Therefore, how returning entrepreneurs can leverage cross-border activities to enhance the efficiency of information search and innovation vitality in agricultural innovation enterprises has become an important topic.Based on the literature review,a mixed-method approach combining exploratory case analysis and re-gression statistical analysis is employed in this paper to identify the characteristic dimensions of returning entrepreneurs'cross-bor-der activities.Building on the dualistic perspective of innovation learning,a mechanistic model is then proposed to elucidate how the cross-border activities of returning entrepreneurs influence business models. On this basis,a sample of 237 returning entre-preneurs from Zhejiang,Jiangsu, and Anhui was taken, and the survey data were statistically processed, leading to the following three conclusions.First, enabling behavior, coordination behavior, and detection behavior in cross-border activities all have a positive promoting effect on business model innovation of returning entrepreneurs.Second, exploratory learning has a significant complementary effect with enabling behavior and coordination behavior, but the complementary effect with detection behavior is not obvious.Third, exploitative learning has a significant complementary effect with detection behavior, but the substitution effect with enabling behavior and coordination behavior is not obvious. The research conclusions contribute to objectively evaluating the performance of returning entrepreneurs'cross-border activities and provide a basis for management practices.
