On the Funding Guarantee System of Modern Private Universities in China:Taking the Private Minguo University as an Example(1931-1949)
The Private Minguo University was founded in Beijing in 1916 as one of the few private universities run by the Chinese people in the early Republic of China. With Lu Dangping serving as the president of the Private Minguo University from 1931,the university finally entered a prolonged period of continuous growth after repeated waves of changes. The university was reloca-ted to Hunan during the war of resistance against Japanese aggression, where it continued its operation until it was merged into Hunan University after 1949.During the period from 1931 to 1949,the Private Minguo University actively sought educational re-sources,adjusted the interaction between the university, government, and society, and formed a financial security system consis-ting of flexible and diverse fundraising methods,a relatively complete financial management system, frugal and targeted expendi-ture strategies, and a multi-party cooperation mechanism to deal with financial disputes.Through the case study of the Private Minguo University, which has both the generality of private universities and the individuation of its own development,it helps to further deepen the understanding of the common characteristics and individual differences of the funding guarantee system of pri-vate universities in modern China.
