Exploring Sustainable Development Pathways for Independent Colleges after Transformation
The transformation process of independent colleges is influenced by factors such as the choice of transformation path-way,the degree to which the parent universities exert their influence, the understanding and cooperation of faculty and students, and whether the basic conditions for running the colleges meet the required standards. The transformation of independent colleges follows three pathways:(1)Transforming into public regular universities, where post-transformation efforts need to address con-cerns of faculty, students, and parents, clarify the educational positioning and development direction, and strengthen cooperation with the original parent universities and local governments;(2)Transforming into non-governmental institutions of higher learn-ing,where post-transformation efforts need to receive more policy guidance and public support, build a high-level faculty team, ensure the stability of the institution, refine the unique characteristics of the school, and focus on internal development;(3)Merging with vocational colleges to transform into vocational undergraduate colleges,a process currently on hold due to public o-pinion.If the merge and transformation plan is resumed in the future,it must be based on the premise of elevating the social sta-tus of vocational undergraduate education. For the third pathway, before proceeding with the merge and transformation,it is es-sential to conduct thorough investigations, provide clear explanations, and monitor public opinion. After the transformation, the vocational undergraduate colleges need to follow the development path of application-oriented universities and play a pivotal role in vocational education at the undergraduate level.
