Accompanying Text and Its Role in the Picture Book Design of Chi Lan Qiao from a Semiotic Perspective
Based on the experience of designing the picture book Chi Lan Qiao,this paper explains the concepts of symbolic text and accompanying text from a semiotic perspective.It explores the critical role of accompanying text in establishing connections between culture and text in the process of symbolic representation.It also points out that understanding the text must be linked to the cultural semiotic field,and the selective use of accompanying text is the reason for diverse interpretations.The accompanying text in the design of the picture book Chi Lan Qiao is emphasized as crucial for conveying cultural background and expressing the meaning of the text.It employs various methods to create the book's"beauty".The elements of the accompanying text play a cru-cial role in the complete design of the picture book Chi Lan Qiao.The subtext in the accompanying text can enhance the expres-sion of the book's binding design;the pretext can harness cultural strength to refine the book's story design;the pre/post text can facilitate the media transformation of various aspects of the book;and the commentary text can elevate the book's cultural dissemi-nation power.By analyzing the accompanying text of Chi Lan Qiao and their functions,we can observe the various relationships between such text and the cultural backgrounds.This analysis aims to provide a reference for design in other picture book fields.
