An Empirical Analysis of Factors Influencing Campus Adaptation of Returning Veterans in Universities
Based on the retirement process theory and social support theory, this paper investigates the campus adaptation of uni-versity students who have returned from military service, analyzes the mediating role of coping mechanisms between social support and campus adaptation, and assesses the impact of retirement preparation on campus adaptation.Social support rating scale(SSRS),simple ways of coping style questionnaire(SWCQ),Chinese college students'adaptation scale(CCSAS)and retire-ment readiness scale were used to investigate 250 university students who had returned from military service. The study found that the adaptation status of university students who had returned from military service was positively correlated with social support, transition preparation, and positive coping strategies, while it was negatively correlated with negative coping strategies.Positive coping strategies partially mediated the relationship between social support and adaptation status. Therefore, university students returning from military service should enhance self-awareness and actively adapt to their new roles.Schools and relevant depart-ments should actively build and improve social support networks, provide necessary psychological counseling, and offer interven-tion education to help these students smoothly transition and adapt to campus life.
