Practices and Insights of Doctoral Degree Programs in For-profit Private Universities:A Case Study based on Ten For-profit Private Universities in the United States
After nearly 50 years of development in for-profit private universities in the United States,more than ten universities have opened doctoral programs in multiple disciplines and can award doctoral degrees.Taking ten for-profit private universities in the United States as an example,this study provides an in-depth understanding of the doctoral degree programs in these universi-ties in terms of number and category,distribution of disciplines,composition of students and faculty structure.It explores and an-alyzes the measures taken by these universities in the certification process and operation mechanism.Based on this,it is sugges-ted that the high-quality development of non-governmental institutions of higher learning in China can draw on the successful ex-periences of for-profit private universities in the United States.This includes increasing the evaluation and accreditation of non-governmental institutions of higher learning,improving the quality of applied talent training,strengthening faculty development,and promoting university-industry cooperation.
