International Low Carbon Tourism Research Trends——A Bibliometric Analysis Based on Web of Science
Research Purpose The benign and progressive development of low-carbon tourism provides a reference ex-perience for the sustainable development of global tourism and has become a hot topic in the field of tourism in recent years.Research Methodology Based on the Web of Science(WOS)core ensemble database,Bibliometrix software was used to summarise the development overview and the trend of theme evolution in the field of international low-carbon tourism research from 2000 to 2023 and to analyze the hot topics in the last six years(2018-2023).Findings The re-sults show that ①the number of low-carbon tourism research has increased significantly,and the academic attention has been rising,which can be divided into four research phases:bud development period(2000-2007),preliminary development period(2008-2013),fluctuating development period(2014-2017),and rapid development period(2018-2023),and it has shown a research trend of quality enhancement and development in the last six years.②De-veloped countries are the main research force in the field of international low-carbon tourism,while China is the only developing country that plays an important role in this field of research.③The theme of international low-carbon tourism research has a diversified development trend,especially since it has entered the rapid development stage,and the research theme is gradually connected with the international environmental protection hotspots.④The hot topics of international low-carbon tourism in the past six years include impact,tourism,climate change and carbon dioxide emissions.Research Implications Based on the conclusions of the above study,the following four insights are ob-tained:①to pay attention to the importance of low-carbon tourism in promoting the sustainable development of tourism;②to take targeted measures to give full play to the economic and ecological benefits of low-carbon tourism;③to innovatively explore the technological path for the development of low-carbon tourism;④and to promote the transformation of the traditional tourist destinations to realise a low-carbon and green transformation.
