Factors related to osteopenia in middle and old-aged males with type 2 diabetes mellitus
Objective To analyze the risk factors of osteopenia in middle and old-aged male patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM).Methods A total of 268 middle and old-aged male patients with T2DM admitted to the endocrinology department of Huzhou First People's Hospital from April 1,2022 to April 1,2023 were enrolled in the study. The clinical data and laboratory test results of patients were collected.Bone mineral density was detected by dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry(DXA),and according to DXA results, the patients were divided into the normal bone mass group(n=167)and the osteopenia group(n=101).The basic conditions and laboratory indicators were compared between two groups, and the risk factors of osteopenia were analyzed with binary logistic regression model. Results Compared with the normal bone mass group, patients in the osteopenia group had older average age, higher serum beta-C-terminal telopeptide of type 1 collagen(β-CTx)and homocysteine Hcy levels, and lower BMI(all P<0.05).Binary logistic regression analysis showed that high age, high β-CTx,and low BMI were independent risk factors for bone loss in middle and old-aged male T2DM patients(all P<0.05).Conclusion Male T2DM patients with older age,low BMI,high serum β-CTx and Hcy levels are likely to have bone loss, high age, high β-CTx,and low BMI were independent risk factors for bone loss.
