Relationship between the expressions of HN1L and PLK1 in patients with adenocarcinoma of the esophagogastric junction and tumor progression and prognosis
Objective To explore the relationship between the expressions of hematological and neurological expressed 1-like(HN1L)and Polo like kinase 1(PLK1)in patients with adenocarcinoma of the esophagogastric junction(AEGJ)and tumor progression and prognosis. Methods The AEGJ tissue of 105 cases surgically removed in Handan First Hospital from June 2017 to June 2020 and the adjacent tissue 5 cm away from the tumor margin were collected. The expression scores of HN1L and PLK1 in cancer tissues and adjacent tissues were compared to analyze the relationship between HN1L and PLK1 expression levels and clinical features.Correlation analysis of the expressions of two proteins was performed using Pearson correlation, while survival and prognostic analyses were conducted using Kaplan-Meier survival curve and multivariate Cox regression, respectively. Results The expression scores of HN1L and PLK1 in cancer tissues of AEGJ patients were significantly higher than those of adjacent tissues(both P<0.05).Compared with AEGJ patients with tumor-node-metastasis(TNM)stages Ⅰ-Ⅱ and no lymph node metastasis, the expression scores of HN1L and PLK1 in cancer tissues of AEGJ patients with TNM stages Ⅲ-Ⅳ and lymph node metastasis were significantly higher(all P<0.05).HN1L was positively correlated with PLK1 expression in AEGJ patients(P<0.01).The 3-year overall survival rate of AEGJ patients was 43.8%.Survival analysis showed that the 3-year overall survival rate of HN1L high-expression group and PLK1 high-expression group were significantly lower than that of the HN1L low-expression group and PLK1 low-expression group(both P<0.01).The results of multivariate Cox regression analysis showed that TNM stages Ⅲ-Ⅳ,lymph node metastasis, and high expressions of HN1L and PLK1 were independent risk factors affecting the prognosis of AEGJ patients(all P<0.01).Conclusion The expression levels of HN1L and PLK1 in cancer tissue of AEGJ patients are closely related to the malignant degree of the tumor, and they are potentially effective indicators for predicting the prognosis of patients.
