[Purpose/Significance]Social modernization is a pivotal facet of national modernization.At the crucial inception phase of establishing a socialist modernized country comprehensively,construction of the indi-cator system for social modernization and international comparative studies is of significant importance for under-standing the current development status of China's social sectors,clarifying strategic priorities,and coordinating the advancement of social modernization.[Method/Process]Building on the theoretical analysis of social mod-ernization,this study focuses on the strategic goal of building a socialist modernized country comprehensively.It constructs a social modernization indicator system covering areas such as health,education,leisure,welfare,and environment,and conducts international comparative studies based on panel data from G20 countries.[Result/Conclusion]In 2020,some social indicators in China performed well,with average life expectancy,safety index,and others ranking at the forefront.However,the overall social modernization index still lags behind advanced countries.As China begins a new journey to comprehensively build a socialist modernized country,the cause of social modernization will also enter a new stage of development.It is crucial to focus on improving national health literacy.education modernization,and quality of life.
