Evaluation of Social Governance Performance and Political Trust——an instrumental variable analysis based on data from "China Family Panel Studies (CFPS2018)"
Political trust, which is a critical dimension of political support, serves as a key pillar underpinning governmental governance. Existing researches on the determinants of political trust primarily emphasize the in-fluence of economic and political performance evaluations. However, within the scope of social governance per-formance,prior studies have mainly focused on the effects of satisfaction with social security and public servic-es,while paying insufficient attention to the governance performance concerning the resolution of social con-flicts and issues. This study underscores the feasibility and necessity of analyzing the impact of institutional per-formance evaluations on political trust from the perspective of social governance performance. Using data from the"China Family Panel Studies(CFPS 2018)"and employing instrumental variable analysis to address the endogeneity issues in governance performance evaluation variables, this study reveals that higher public evalua-tions of governance performance in resolving social conflicts and issues are associated with higher levels of po-litical trust in governments at various levels. Enhancing social governance effectiveness and promptly and effec-tively addressing social problems and conflicts are crucial for maintaining high levels of political trust among the public.
