Effect of Shading on the Growth and Fruit Quality of Two Ilex verticillata
[Objective]By comparing the shade tolerance of two Ilex verticillata varieties, the study aims to better guide the production.[Method]'Oosterwijk'and'Gray'were taken as the test materials and treated with four light intensities:shading treatment of 30%,50%,70%,and 100%full light. The plant growth, fruit setting and fruit quality were measured.[Result]With the increase of shading, the plant height, canopy, length of branches of the year, and fruit vertical and transverse diameters increased first and then decreased. The stem diameter, anthocyanin content and soluble sugar content declined while the coloring time of fruits and the fruit dropping rate had a rising tendency. It was concluded that the shading treatment of 50%was the most suitable one for the growth of I.verticillata.[Conclusion]The shade tolerance coefficient analysis and principal component analysis showed that,'Oosterwijk'had strong shade tolerance than'Gray',and 3 principal components could be used to evaluate their shade tolerance.
