This research focuses on perturb and observe ( P&O) method for photovoltaic maximum power point tracking ( MPPT) . An adaptive variable step-size MPPT method based on the area ratio is proposed. This method automatically adjusts the perturbation step size during the tracking process according to the area ratio derived from the sampling point data,achieving adaptive adjustment to the perturbation step size. As a result,it can more accurately track the maximum power point. To verify the correctness of the proposed method,a comparison is made between the traditional P&O method and the adaptive variable step-size method. The result are analyzed to confirm the correctness of the proposed method. The comparison shows that the adaptive variable step-size method has certain advantages over the traditional P&O method,particularly in terms of maintaining performance even under changing external conditions.
