Entrepreneurs'Participation in Chamber of Commerce Tenure and Privately Listed Firms Continuous Charitable Donations
As a typical social network organization,the chamber of commerce can influence corporate decision-making behavior through the way of entrepreneurs'participation in chamber of commerce tenure.Using Chinese A-share privately listed firms from 2004 to 2021,this paper examines the rela-tionship between entrepreneurs'(chairman or CEO)part-time position in chambers of commerce and corporate continuous charitable donations.The results show that:(1)Entrepreneurs'part-time positions in chambers of commerce drive private-owned firms more likely to fulfill continuous chari-table donations and donate more,and the more types of part-time positions in chambers of com-merce,the more pronounced the relationship is;(2)The positive effect of entrepreneurs'part-time positions in chambers of commerce on the continuous charitable donations behavior of private enter-prises is more pronounced for firms with low attention from analysts,less entrepreneurs'part-time jobs,and for firms not restructured from state-owned enterprises;(3)Entrepreneurs who hold part-time positions in chambers of industry and commerce and industrial associations or in nation-level and city-county-level chambers of commerce are more likely to donate continuously and donate more;(4)Channel analysis shows that entrepreneurs'part-time positions in chambers of commerce promotes privately listed firms continuous charitable donations by integrating the rules and purposes of commerce chambers into business activities and keeping the reputation of the enterprise.This study reveals the positive impact of entrepreneurs'social networks in chambers of commerce on private-owned firms'continuous charitable donations,and provides the evidence about the driving mechanisms of corporate non-utilitarian continuous charitable donations,and provides policy inspira-tions on China's chambers of commerce to participate in corporate governance.
