Does Industrial and Commercial Capital Flowing to Rural Areas Increase Rural Household Income?
Industrial and commercial capital flowing to rural areas holds significant implications for optimizing the allocation of urban and rural resource factors,thereby fostering common prosperity among rural households.This paper uses data from the China Rural Revitalization Survey(CRRS)in 2020 and China Academy for Rural Development-qiyan China Agri-research Database(CCAD)to analyze the impact and mechanism of industrial and commercial capital on the income of rural households.The results reveal that industrial and commercial capital is conducive to enhancing the income of rural households.This finding is still valid after a series of robustness tests.In income structure,industrial and commercial capital mainly increases non-farm operating income and wage earnings,but reduces agricultural income.Industrial and commercial capital promotes the transfer of labor force from agricultural employment to local non-agricultural employment,improves the non-agricultural employment rates,and thus increases total income.The positive effects of industrial and commercial capital have no significant difference on rural households with different education levels and economic conditions.It shows the role of industrial and commercial capital to help the rural vulnerable groups.Further analysis shows that industrial and commercial capital re-lated to primary,secondary,and tertiary industries all contribute to the improvement of income,and the positive effect is gradually enhanced.The findings furnish empirical support for the promo-tion of industrial and commercial capital infusion into rural areas,with the aim of fostering prosper-ity among rural households.
