Manufacturing/installation errors of gear and bearing radial clearance lead to the variation of the center distance in gears, which changes the contact characteristics of tooth surfaces, and affects the wear and the fatigue life of tooth surfaces. In this paper, based on the gear center distance models considering manufacturing/installation errors and bearing radial clearance, combined with the Hertzian contact theory and gear meshing principle,a tooth contact pressure calculation model considering the variation of center distance was established, and the accuracy of the proposed model was verified by comparing its results with the results of the finite element contact model. In addition, the effect of the gear center distance change on the tooth contact pressure was further investigated. The results show that with the increase of the actual center distance, the error between the results of the proposed model and the results of the finite element model decreases. As the actual center distance increases, the error between the proposed model results and the finite element model results decreases. As the gear center distance increases, the tooth contact pressure decreases, but the contact ratio also decreases, and the single-tooth contact area decreases and shifts to the left along the direction of the line of action. Therefore, the reasonable control of the change of gear center distance is of great significance to the improvement of tooth surface contact performance.
