Mechanism and application of xanthan gum in flotation of zinc oxide ore
In the recovery process of high mud zinc oxide ore,it is difficult to efficiently separate zinc oxide minerals by flotation due to fine calcite. By means of flotation test, laser particle size analysis and optical microscope observation, the effect and mechanism of xanthan gum on flotation recovery of high argillaceous zinc oxide ore were studied. It is found that the addition of xanthan gum can effectively eliminate the adverse effects of fine calcite and improve the quality of zinc oxide concentrate. The grade of Zn in zinc oxide concentrate is increased and the content of Ca is decreased. In the mixed concentrate of zinc sulfide and zinc oxide, the grade of Zn is 26.44% and the recovery of Zn is 81.09%. Xanthan gum has selective flocculation effect on fine calcite, and the particle(D90) size increases from 9.48 μm to 279.74 μm after xanthan gum action, which effectively reduces the possibility of mechanical entrainment of fine calcite into flotation foam, and has no obvious effect on the particle size of fine smithsonite.
