Studies on importance of valuable wood species resources and its development strategy
The requirement amount for wood of valuable tree species is increasing, due to more and more as rapid development of cities and town construction and improvement of housing conditions of residents. But China is seriously deficiency in valuable tree resources presently, as well as a scarcity of potential resources. Thus, it is necessary to adjust our policies and principles of forest culture and management dominated by planting pines, firs, bamboo and eucalyptus, and vigorously grow valuable broadleaved tree species and forest category. According to the wood properties, the valuable tree woods can be divided into 4 types, such as rosewood, para-rosewood, hardwood and fine wood, and 138 valuable wood species were selected from our national woody resource-pool. The table of valuable tree speies in the southen China with priority sequence were made, according to the evaluation of wood color, wood density, supply credibility of seed and seedling resources, ripening degree of breeding technology and growth speed in every tree species. This priority sequence may be served as a basis for selecting valuable tree species to afforest.
