The xenia effect of different chestnut varieties pollen(excellent clones)
[Objective]This work aimed to investigate the effects of pollinizer cultivars on the chestnut nut quality in order to provide a reference for screening chestnut pollinizer and improving the nut quality.[Method]Eight Chinese chestnut varieties with large-grain,sweet and waxy traits were selected for pollination experiment. The quality indicators of the parents and pollinated nuts were analyzed,as well as the correlation between quality indicators of the parent nuts and the pollinated nuts. The female parent self-pollinated nuts was used as control.[Result]The nut mass and the contents of starch, soluble sugar, total phenolics and total flavonoids were significantly affected by different pollinizer. The amylose content increased by 53.6%('Qianxizaohong'×'Taili 1');the amylopectin increased by 32.0%('Yanshanzaofeng'×'Jingshuhong');the soluble sugar increased by 34.4%('Taili 1'×'Jingshuhong');the protein increased by 34.6%('Qianxizaohong'×'Jingshuhong');the total phenolics increased by 65.4%('Taili 1'×'Jingshuhong');the total flavonoids increased by 115.7%('Taili 1'×'Bayuehong')and the nut mass increased by 33.5%('Yanshanzaofeng'×'Wangqiandali').The results of principal component analysis and comprehensive evaluation of 11 chestnut quality indicators showed that'Taili 1'improved the comprehensive nut quality of female parent'Yanshanzaofeng','Qianxizaohong'and'Tai'anbokeli'most significantly, and'Jingshuhong'improved the nut quality of'Taili 1'most significantly.[Conclusion]The xenia effects were observed in the nut mass, the contents of starch, soluble sugar, protein, fat, total phenolics and total flavonoids of chestnut. The mass of pollinated nuts was significantly positively correlated with the mass of the male parent self-pollinated nut,but the xenia effect on pericarp color and nut shape index was not obvious.Combined with yield factors,'Taili 1'could be the optimal pollinizer of'Yanshanzaofeng','Qianxizaohong'and'Tai'anbokeli',and'Jingshuhong'could be the optimal pollinizer of'Taili 1'.
