The response of plant functional traits to the environment and their application in forest management
Plant functional traits can be summarized as core plant traits that can affect ecosystem functions and reflect plant responses to the environment.Plants form specific physiological and morphological traits due to genetic characteristics or coupling with the environment based on plasticity.More emphasis is placed on the relationship between plants and the ecosystem and the environment. The core plant attributes play a mediating role between the environment and plants. The research on plant functional traits has achieved fruitful results in the field of ecology, and the law of its response to the environment is gradually clear. However, the current research mainly focuses on the basic theory of ecology, and its application research is few and scattered, lacking systematic combing and summary. In this paper, the development and classification of plant functional traits were reviewed and sorted out,and on the basis of analyzing the definition of plant functional traits, five categories of common classification were summarized, including plant organs or parts, the difficulty of obtaining functional traits, plant survival strategies, the relationship between traits and environment, and morphological and physiological characteristics. It is pointed out that the classification system of plant functional traits needs to be supplemented and adjusted. Then, according to the needs of forest management, taking into account the requirements of intuitiveness and operability, the functional traits that have been studied intensively were discussed by means of organ classification, including the response of leaf functional traits, stem functional traits, root functional traits and reproductive traits to the environment. Finally, the paper discusses the application of plant functional traits in forest management in four aspects:providing basis for tree species selection for forest regeneration, providing guidance for forest cutting structure adjustment, providing early warning for forest fire prevention and ecological protection, and providing effective prediction for forest productivity. In order to provide some theoretical guidance for the study of the response of plant functional traits to environment and its application in forest management.
