Effects of drought stress on growth and leaf color of Liquidambar formosana'Yunlin Zifeng'
[Objective]To study the relationship between different soil moisture conditions and the growth and leaf color of Liquidambar formosana'Yunlin Zifeng'.[Method]Using 1-year-old L.formosana'Yunlin Zifeng'as experimental materials and systematically conducted a study on their growth and leaf color changes under soil moisture content of 80%,65%,50%,and 35%of soil field moisture. The leaf chromaticity values was determined by a small colorimeter CR-10 Plus. The contents of chlorophyll, carotenoid, anthocyanins and soluble sugars were determined by UV-visible spectrophotometer.[Result]1)Under the condition of soil moisture content of 65%,the total biomass accumulation of L.formosana'Yunlin Zifeng'was the highest(23.83 g),while under the condition of 50%,the height(62.98 cm)and diameter growth were the highest(1.34 mm);2)As the experiment progressed, the leaves chromaticity values L* in each treatment first increased and then decreased, while the chromaticity values a* and b* showed a trend of first decreasing and then increasing. After 70 days of drought treatment, the leaves chromaticity values were all lower than 80%,and under 65%conditions,L*,a*,and b* with 50%conditions,and a* with 35%conditions,were significantly lower than 80%(P<0.05).The chlorophyll a and carotenoid content in L.formosana'Yunlin Zifeng'leaves under different water treatments showed an increasing trend, while chlorophyll b and total chlorophyll content first increased and then decreased, and chlorophyll a/b showed a decreasing and then increasing trend. At 70 days, the chlorophyll b content in leaves under 35%conditions was significantly lower than that of the control and 65%(P<0.05);3)Under 50%conditions,the content of anthocyanins and soluble sugars in leaves was significantly higher than other treatments(P<0.05).[Conclusion]Under 50%conditions,it is beneficial for the growth and biomass accumulation of L.formosana'Yunlin Zifeng',while effectively increasing the accumulation of anthocyanins and soluble sugars in leaves.Long term low water supply can promote the growth of plant roots. The pigment content and type of L.formosana'Yunlin Zifeng'are important factors affecting leaf color, and the soluble sugar content can to some extent affect the synthesis and expression of anthocyanins.
