Correlation between appearance characteristics and intrinsic quality of Chaenomelis Fructus based on"quality evaluation through morphological identification"
The correlation between the quantitative values of appearance characteristics and the contents of main chemical components in Chaenomelis Fructus was studied to provide reference for the quality evaluation.Chaenomelis Fructus were quantified with size, texture and color characteristics. The contents of main chemical components, including alcohol-soluble extract,water-soluble total organic acid, total oleanolic and ursolic acids, total phenols and total flavonoids were determined. Then, correlation analysis and regression analysis were carried out.The results showed that the correlation between alcohol-soluble extract content and density of Chaenomelis Fructus was highly significant. The correlation between water-soluble total organic acid, total flavonoid content and external surface a*(representing color red-green direction)was significant as well.In addition, total oleanolic acid and ursolic acid contents exhibited significantly positive correlation with flesh thickness, density and longitudinal section's color value a*.Conclusion:There were significant positive correlations between the appearance characteristic such as flesh thickness, density, chromaticity value a* of outer surface, longitudinal section and the main chemical components.Traditional experience"solid texture, thick flesh, red color and and sour taste is of better quality",which can be used as a basis for predicting the content of main components and judging the quality of Chaenomelis Fructus.
