From Combining History and Philosophy of Science to the Great and Small Scientific Revolutions:And a Discussion with Prof.Xiao Xianjing
Prof.Xiao Xianjing's recent work is an ambitious attempt to combine history and philosophy of science.Only when we arrive at a rational un-derstanding on the relationship between history of science and philosophy of science, can we appropriately appreciate its academic legitimacy and contribu-tion.Using the conceptual resources of Eman McMullin,we can take Prof.Xiao's work as a version of"external philosophy of science".Besides, the basic concepts of this approach, particularly"the uppercase Scientific Revolution","the lowercase Scientific Revolution"and their relationship, need to be clarified or modified in order to avoid ambiguity.
