Wilderness and Civilization:Reflections Based on a New View of Wilderness
The view of wilderness has a significant impact on people's basic attitudes and ways of dealing with Nature,as well as on the protection of the wilderness in reality.Incorrect views about wilderness will lead to dangerous and destructive environmental policies and measures.From the perspective of mutual learning between Chinese and American civilizations,this article attempts to construct an ecological view of wilderness that meets the requirements of ecological civilization development from three aspects:the redefinition of wilderness,revaluation of its value,and repositioning of the relationship be-tween civilization and wilderness.The aim is to reverse Chinese's one-sided understanding and negative evaluation of wilderness,correctly understand the positive value of wilderness for human civilization development,especially cherish the irreplaceable ecological value and the enormous spiritual and cultural value contained in wilderness,and promote China's wilderness protection and ecological civilization construction.
