Various types of texts catalogued in the Seven Bibliographies七略 under the heading"Bibliography of Poems and Rhythmic Proses"诗赋略 address the evolution of the politics of rites and music in the Western Han.It was a brand-new"learning of the officials at court"in that time.The"Bibliography of Poems and Rhythmic Proses"sought to encapsulate the cultural output of the politics of rites and music in the Han period,celebrating the triumph of the novel politics of rites and music,which mainly drew upon Chu cultural traditions.The compiling of the Seven Bibliographies serves to form a response to the political crisis that occurred during the reign of Emperor Xuan 汉宣帝,Emperor Yuan 汉元帝 and Emperor Cheng 汉成帝.The Seven Bibliographies documented and delineated the ritual and musical culture in the Western Han,which was a counterpart to the political regime of the time characterized by feudalism and aristocratism,and it reproduced the flourishing scene of the learning of the officials at court of the Western Zhou.This is certainly an evidence for the close relationship between the early Chinese bibliography and its political culture.
