From lunar March to June in 1900,Wang Guowei王国维 traveled to Hangzhou four times for issues concerning his journey abroad,the details of which was well documented in Wang Naiyu's Diary王乃誉日记.During that time,he was able to meet Gao Fengqi高凤岐 and presented his Twenty Poems on History.The analysis of reading history shows that the Western books provided a systematic historical view and content reference for the group of poems,such as Concise Orient History by Jitsuzo Kuwabara桑原陟藏 and The Book of Dates translated by Young John Allen林乐知.Wang Guowei's reading experience of Chinese history provides an important rhetorical reference for this group of poems.The text modification from Shanghai Library version to the critical version shows the formal conquest of literature over history.The analysis of the annotation of poems such as"the Black Sea"and"the West Head"can help us speculate on the author's original intention and the historical contexts through the question of textual generation.
