Draw on the experience and practices from the Three Gorges Reservoir area and promote the ecological protection and management of the Danjiangkou Reservoir's drawdown zone
The drawdown zone refers to the area that is periodically exposed above the water surface due to seasonal water level fluctuations caused by human hydrological regulation. Its management status directly affects the water quality, reservoir capacity, and safe operation of the reservoir.Due to the fragile ecosystem, high difficulty in pollution control, and high risk of geological disasters, the management of drawdown zones remains a global challenge. In recent years, with the raising of the Danjiangkou Dam and the increase in water storage, the area of the drawdown zone has expanded significantly, leading to higher risks of water quality pollution, intense land use,and prominent agricultural non-point source pollution, posing a certain threat to the water quality safety of the South-to-North Water Diversion Project. It is suggested to draw on the experience of the Three Gorges Reservoir and take multiple measures to effectively promote the ecological protection and management of the drawdown zone in Danjiangkou Reservoir.
