Confinement and Freedom:Existentialism in the Science Fiction Film Finch
The science fiction film Finch tells a story about humans'struggle for survival after ecological disasters. The protagonist Finch cannot accept the reality that morality has broken down and he can only protect himself with loneliness. However,in doing so,Finch still couldn't escape the dilemma of moral choices. On the one hand, encountering injustice with cowardice denies the noble power of morality. On the other hand, direct confrontation may sacrifice the one while competing in the jungle-like world.Finch, who is accustomed to curling up,chooses not to act righteously;accordingly,he carries the moral burden of injustice in his heart.Later, under the influence of his companion Jeff,Finch gradually realizes that life is inherently"absurd",and avoidance with passivity would only lead life towards nothingness.Active resistance helps him regain confidence and establish a good relationship built on mutual trust.Even if the passing of life is inevitable, life is meaningful due to freedom and hope.
